The scenes in between the action are provocatively tense, and help to draw the viewer into a bizarre world that is wreaking havoc on Farrow's Rosemary. The film is, perhaps unintentionally, a parody of spousal abuse and sexism, made all the more tragic by the way Rosemary wastes away throughout the it, becoming a shadowy wreck unable to handle the unnatural difficulties of her personal life, who ultimately gives into the difficulties of the world around her.
