The Shining is a uniquely disturbing film. Kubrick transforms the Overlook Hotel from isolated to terrifying with a camera that emphasizes the characters actions with a chilling severity. Nicholson's performance as Jack Torrence is pitch perfect, an engrossing descent into madness that careens between charismatic and abusive. Watching this film is a horrific experience that that does not offer any easy answers.
